I am finally done with all my May 2015 photos.  Well, I still have a bunch of photos taken by my travel companions and a bunch that I have taken of them but wanted to protect their privacy.  Paris the second time probably wasn’t as good as the first time and this is probably because my expectations were much higher the second time around.  I went back to many of the same restaurants and most didn’t taste as good as the first time around.  Memory is a funny thing?

Been to Italy for the first time for the second time.  Did actually come here as a teenager with family but didn’t have any fun with the tour group and all.  So, I swore I’d be back sans tour group so I could go where I want to go, wake up when I want to wake up and, most importantly, eat what I want to eat.  And, Italy has bumped France as my favorite food spot.  Just very hard to beat Venice and Genoa for some genuine main courses and snacks.  Milan and Paris just didn’t compare food wise.  Perhaps it is true that food tastes better where time travels the slowest.

    Barilla!! and Raid pasta strips?

    • http://etane.net/ etane

you see raid? i see loctite. apparently italians use glue on their pasta.

      • Phonow

Raid is in the green boxes hanging by the blue Barilla boxes– on the left. never heard of loctite before–had to look it up. italians must love strands of very long pasta. haha

        • http://etane.net/ etane

i use loctite. it’s super strength fast dry super glue. apparently, chef approved.

          • Phonow

i really liked that pic. stuff that americans would put in a household section– stretches along the top of the pasta isle. lol.

btw, is that a cigarette vending machine? do they sell it individually?

          • http://etane.net/ etane

individual packs i guess? i know some countries sell cigs individually.. mostly third world cuz they can’t afford the whole pack. i used to buy them by the carton cuz i live in a first world country. USA USA!!!

          • Phonow

            lol. you smoke?

i (cough cough) am still a pack a day. i guess that is why my eyes went straight to that machine. haha

          • http://etane.net/ etane

i quit like 10-15 years ago. US banned those machines years ago so i was surprised to see a cig vend machine …

          • Phonow

good for you! save a lot of $$. hawaii is trying to stamp out smoking by banning it everywhere & taxing it to hell. haha

          • http://etane.net/ etane

smoking is good for you when you are living with your mother haha!

          • Phonow

haha. for sure, i can relate. it’s like, i need five minutes to gather myself before i do/say something i will regret later.

          • http://etane.net/ etane

i bet your mom is republican jk

          • Phonow

haha. nope both parents democrats. :)

let’s just say that our youth was similar– both parents had problems that forced us to “grow up” all too soon.

          • http://etane.net/ etane

your parents received to grow up too?

          • Phonow

            ? received ?

          • http://etane.net/ etane

            refused haha.. i was multitasking

          • Phonow

haha. am on portal. jlinfanfromaust (mod) is having a nervous breakdown. she is threatening to ban one n all. poor psalm. jlinfan does not know psalm wants the numbers.

          • http://etane.net/ etane

oh is she the one that had cancer? that’s the only aussie i know that was in jlin.net

          • Phonow

yes. she recovered. nice lady, but very religious. like me, she does not understand bb.

i remember she tried to ban a person for asking if portal could tone down the religious speak a little. (he asked very politely) and she screamed bloody murder at him. psalm stepped in & said since JL is christian, then christian posts are welcomed. haha. the guy was not banned, but decided to leave on his own.

btw Dockers (kangaroo avatar) is from Aust. also.

          • http://etane.net/ etane

glad to know she recovered. not glad to know she’s a religious zealot. here was the agnostic jeremy lin site and look at how popular it is haha.

          • Phonow

portal is successful because they very actively recruited people from jl.net. like when a law firm breaks up– you steal people w/promises of power (mod-dom).

it is difficult to steal agnostic bb fans, because, well….

          • http://etane.net/ etane

hey i recruited too. i told them they get a free starbucks gift card for joining my site. they came here to get the card then immediately left. i lost $20 bucks.

          • Phonow

HEY where’s my card etane! come on cough it up!

          • http://etane.net/ etane

i drank it all. you snooze you looze.

          • Phonow

            damn. just my luck.

oh well. sipping nescafe instant coffee, win some, lose some.

  • Phonow

are you able to read this article? just checking– trying to see if it is behind a paywall.
    http://www.civilbeat.com/2015/11/why-asian-americans-dont-vote-republican/

    • http://etane.net/ etane

yah i can see it… read it after i am out of a meeting…

      • Phonow

Someone on jl.net posted it. Civil Beat used to be behind a paywall. CB is a online only news site founded by Pierre Omidyar –the Paypal/Ebay man. lives in hawaii.

        • http://etane.net/ etane

          couldn’t finish reading it…

“Moreover, Asian-Americans as a group have a number of attributes that
would usually predict an affinity for the Republican Party…

So why are Asian-Americans leaning left instead of right?”

The author makes a lot of assumptions. Could be a matter more easier explained by who the information gateway (within the asian immigrant family) is the person who understands english and that person is usually younger.

          • Phonow

Why are asians leaning left rather than right? — the author say that “The feeling of social exclusion stemming from their ethnic background
might be pushing Asian Americans away from the Republican Party.”

Prevedouros (former mayoral candidate) commented that asians swing left because most of them are already in Dem. states. And, ultimately asians comprise such a small voting population (4%) in the states, it does not really matter. [hahaha. looks like he will not run again in Hawaii. to win here, you have to kiss asian butt. :) ] #asianlivesmatter.

if you are interested in the article, perhaps you can read the rest of it here: https://theconversation.com/why-asian-americans-dont-vote-republican-48369

          • http://etane.net/ etane

well i don’t buy that “exclusion” argument. I mean it explains some percentage of population. but, i think that percentage is very little as to why they’ve become anti republican.

a large swath of immigrants are highly anti bush and that carried over to anti republican. most immigrants who read about the war from non-american news sources are not supportive of the war.

even my mom who was very pro bush/republican turned anti republican.. actually she was probably peer pressured into it by her mah jong buddies.

          • Phonow

well thank gawd people in other countries don’t watch fox news.

but it is only a matter of time before murdoch & his ilk owns the world’s media. (ot: did you read that murdoch just bought out national geographic? omg).

and thank your mom’s mah jong buddies for me. hahaha.

          • http://etane.net/ etane

yah and think about how exclusionary the republican people are of middle class and poor people.. yet they still vote republican. so, i don’t buy the exclusionary argument. it’s not scientific nor logical.

the people who usually needs and are using up the most welfare are the most… red..

          • Phonow

re exclusionary argument. it would be difficult to prove that asians tend to vote left because they feel “excluded.” but, i don’t think it is too far fetched to think gays, mexicans, muslims, and other minorities vote left because of repug talking points.

i think middle class and poor whites vote repug because of repug talking points: pro religion/anti abortion, pro military, and anti minority. these issues trump any economic benefits the democrats have to offer.

          • http://etane.net/ etane

70% asians simply don’t view america as their home. many come here with their kids for the schools or invest in some houses but don’t ideologically believe what happens here matters to them. case in point, tons of asians in southern california but, within those districts, from politicians to police officers are all white. they don’t care who is their congress person. they don’t feel like they have a stake in the game. so, they don’t care whether they are excluded by whatever party.

what does bother asians is immigration policy. this is not party but issue related. of course asians prefer more lenient immigration policy. but this issue alone doesn’t exactly tip the scales left or right. neither party’s platform really affect immigration vis a vis asian immigrants. perhaps h1 visas affect professionals but not so much regular immigration. both parties welcome rich and educated asians while both fight back against birth tourism. so, this matter is really par for course.

tried to google where i read the stuff i just typed, but.. found this instead. http://www.thirdway.org/report/the-untapped-political-power-of-asian-americans

          • Phonow

ok. i see. new asian immigrants do not see how the political process affects their lives– except for the process that already did (immigration policies). that is natural. but, as time goes on, they, or their children, will become more aware that politics matter. [or, on the other hand, no matter how hard you try, you can't change the system lol!]

Interesting. i always assumed that Calif. Asians were pretty much part of the system– in all professions, and in politics. bad assumption.

truthfully, i never gave much thought to the thoughts and concerns of new asian immigrants. heck, i am more aware of the plights of mexican or (in hawaii), micronesian immigrants. Asians like me contribute to making Asians invisible.

          • http://etane.net/ etane

yup and the recent lean towards democrats is not an exclusion shift but a demographic/gernational shift since the information gatekeepers are younger asians who are US educated and speak english better than their immigrant parents do. they are democrats cuz frankly republicans completely lost the gen y and younger votes.

if jlin.net is a microcosm, you’d see that it’s the asians who has been in the states for a long time who are frustrated with their own skin color. as Charles would say, you have to fix yourself before you blame others… hhaa

          • Phonow

speaking of KH (lol) I haven’t seen him around as much. i wonder if he has found something good in his life. (unlike the rest of us who are still there 24/7 haha)

          • http://etane.net/ etane

probably hiding since psycho t isn’t working out.

          • Phonow

like an injured wolf, he licks his wounds…. and waits…..

          • http://etane.net/ etane

or maybe he got a gf finally

          • Phonow

lol. kh says he has had tons of gfs. eh…. depends on your definition of gf.

          • http://etane.net/ etane

oh u read about his dating history?

          • Phonow

eh, some guys were yapping about conquests, and he can’t resist one-upmanship posts.

          • http://etane.net/ etane

oh he did that once before you joined the forum.. me and this other guy ridiculed him to death about it.. didn’t think he’d try that again.. then again both of us got banned soon after haha

          • Phonow

lol. you were banned once before?

          • http://etane.net/ etane

            yah one time before

          • Phonow

wish i saw the battle. :(

you vs meta was better than ali vs frasier

          • http://etane.net/ etane

yah that was fun and a good way to waste time away haha

          • Phonow

jl.net is just not the same without you. less witty & pithy

          • http://etane.net/ etane

it seems to be a barrel of monkeys when i read some just now.

          • Phonow

a barrel of monkeys provides more entertainment. it is too bad psalm created portal. before, there was always a lively mix with the X-ians and the bb nuts, and the adults.

          • http://etane.net/ etane

i think the site has been improved since the exodus.. literally HAHAHAA

          • Phonow

ok. i’m bad. psalm’s site allows x-ians to deep massage one another. jlin.net exposed them to people outside of their comfortable little clique

          • http://etane.net/ etane

not particularly xians but anyone that make the reason why forums (or should i say the internet) exist to be not functional is bad for the forum. in this case, information exchange is the reason why forums exist be it pro or anti whatever position you hold.
