An Open Letter to the Rockets

To the Rockets organization, I think you are making a big business miscalculation by propping up James Harden by down playing Jeremy Lin. Jeremy is a house hold name known globally not only because of his basketball talents but also because of his charisma and charity around the world. OTOH, you have James Harden who is hardly a house hold name and that’s probably best as he’s not a likeable nor a good example for youths and young basketball players alike.

You may argue that you have accomplished much on the court via FA this off season, but I think you know as well as I that simply stuffing the line up with stars does not guarantee that you will have a successful season rather only expectations is raised hence raises the specter of performing under expectations.

You still have a head coach who only knows how to transition between read and react to isolation plays and also is very poor at rotating players off the bench. No matter how great of players you have, you’re not going to win the games with a skipper who doesn’t understand how to make the most of different game situations or take advantage player mismatches as well as maximizing production from the bench.

In conclusion, by your current strategies, you will surely lose the PR battle with your fans and the basketball battle with your opponents when playing crucial games that really count.

I for one only watch Houston games because of Jeremy Lin because he’s your best and most interesting player bar none. Sames goes with thousands if not millions of fans around the world. I find it completely silly that you rather manufacture a new star at the cost of destroying the one you already have. And, if you truly do not value Jeremy’s value proposition (which we know you do) both on and off the court, please trade him to a different team and get a player you actually value in return.
